I am a third-grade teacher. I have a wonderful group of students! They are constantly impressing me with their hard-working attitudes, amazing work ethics, and overall positive outlooks on life. I am so proud to be their teacher. They deserve the best education possible.
I teach at a rural, Title I school serving approximately three hundred students.
Every child receives free breakfast and lunch. We are located near a large military base and, as a result, serve children of active duty and retired military. Our school serves students from many socioeconomic backgrounds including homeless students, who at times may live with family, friends, or other relatives.
Our students are bright and eager to learn new things. They are hard workers and strive to make their world a better place.
My Project
Each week my students are required to read stories and take quizzes on those stories. This program our whole school uses is called Reading Counts through Scholastic. After every 9 weeks, students are able to earn awards Reading Counts. The awards are for basic goals, challenge goals, 100 point club, 250 point club, and the 500 point club.
My students love this program and the incentive for reading.
They are highly motivated to read and love passing those quizzes.
I want to really encourage and motivate my students. I surveyed my students and they are interested in many prizes large and small. The prizes can be earned by how many points they earn throughout the school year. Some of the prizes include 3D bookmarks, books, science kits, glow in the dark sports balls, math games, and more! I know my students will love these incentives! I want to really encourage them to become life-long learners and readers. Thank you for your time and support of our class! Family engagement can be included because parents can encourage their kids to keep on reading to earn these prizes as well.
