This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember being rewarded by your teacher? I would like my students to be rewarded as well as have basic supplies such as tape and paper.
The students live in a high poverty, high crime area in our large city.
They come to school with many needs ranging from clothing to basic school supplies. Many of our students would not eat a balanced meal if it weren't for school. Our elementary school has one of the highest poverty rates in our district - over 85%.
My Project
This grant provides tape for displaying student work, colored paper for sending home communication, Clifford and Curious George books to start their personal library, and incentive buttons for positive recognition. Students are proud of their work from start to finish. Being able to display their work is an exciting time. Many students would not have books if it were not for their teacher. Each year I give my students at least 2 books for them to start their home library. The incentive buttons will encourage the students to continue to strive for their best.
With budget cuts, I am no longer able to provide these items without your help.
Providing materials to help spotlight, motivate, and educate students will inspire them to reach further. You can help provide incentive buttons, tape, paper, and books to a group of students who would be without if it weren't for YOU!
