My Students

As a teacher at a school which requires only 3 science credits to graduate, it is rare to see students as motivated to learn as those in my Genetics class. Many students complete their required science credits by sophomore year and never take another science course again. However, my students are different. Each student enters my classroom with 4 or 5 science credits under their belts, and yet, they are eager to learn more.

Each student has a true passion for science and an innate willingness to learn not only through my teaching, but also through independent research and hands-on projects.

My students are not academically perfect, rather, they possess the passion and drive which motivates them to continue working even when met with challenges or setbacks.

My Project

As an educator, I feel it is my responsibility to provide the best possible learning resources for my students. However, with a minimal science budget which continuously sees cuts, my fellow educators and I are struggling to provide the means for learning which our students deserve.

I am seeking to provide my well-deserving students with the resources they need to learn and prepare for their future careers in the field of science.

We plan on using fruit flies to demonstrate gene splicing and cross-breeding in action. The gene kit will demonstrate how genes respond to an environment. And as students learn about blood antibodies and antigens the blood typing kit will allow students to discover their blood type and how this pertains to them.
