Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a small rural community. My school serves K-8th grade students. The school library provides books and services to all 9 grades. Most of the students here are from low-income homes or homes where English is a second language. They wait patiently every morning for me to unlock the library door. They come to the library for a variety of reasons, to read, check out books, get warm, use the computer, and other activities that I provide for them.
My Project
My students love to draw. The few drawing books we have in the school library are falling apart. The books are constantly checked out. It is so amazing to see how they encourage my students' creativity. My students love to draw a variety of things but currently the Manga drawings and graphic novels are very popular. I have picked "Manga (You can Draw it), and " HOw to Draw Comic Heroes" to support my students' interests.
Other drawing books about dogs, horses, aliens, pets and more will also be in great demand.
My students love to read and draw. These drawing books will support and give them new ideas that will help them in all areas. Art is essential in the schools. Encouraging my students to draw and create is such a positive thing. The world is theirs to read about, explore and draw.
