This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

By purchasing these practice pads, I will be able to serve our students both physically & emotionally while also teaching about history & culture. The physical aspect comes from the need of many younger students to get their energy out. Allowing them to drum away on a surface that will not cause disruption or headaches due to loud volumes an actual drum head may cause can be very therapeutic. The emotional aspect comes from the experience I, and many, have had playing the drums to fulfill something spiritual in us.

Many cultures around the world use drumming as a way to connect with one another as well as the Earth; this is something my students need here in Oakland, CA.

Music is so fluid with how we may relate it to other school & societal subjects. This is my plan as by teaching rhythm & percussion, I can educate students not only by connecting rhythm to math & science, but also history & culture by introducing students to important music from all around the world that they may have never heard prior to being in my class.

This would be serving all 450+students at my school.
