This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We're nearing the home stretch for the school year. Students are taking responsibility for their own learning, especially as they help determine what they need to continue to work on so they're ready for the end of grade assessments.

During independent work time, my kids are working their way through 100 science lab stations to help them continuously review 5th grade science concepts.

I'm adding more literacy-based science lab stations to help them gain stamina in reading while they're doing what they love.

The Sciencesaurus is a fun resource for reading about science, with lots of color, illustrations, and photos to help support my multi-lingual students and my students who are struggling to read. The glossary in the back of the book is wonderful, again with illustrations to support student understanding.

Every student has a bag with index cards that they have made to help them study the concepts and academic language they have identified as difficult. The kids are doing a wonderful job creating their "brain dump" cards, and I know we're going to need a ton before the end of the year.
