Hi everyone! My students are so curious, energetic and intelligent! They are three to five year olds that are part of the Migrant Program. We are located in a small town where we are known for the agriculture around us. Therefore this program helps those families who migrate to California and qualify for free preschool for their children. Although they come from Migrant Parents, (who struggle for employment and some don't even have food or clothes) these students are so successful! Most start the school year speaking Spanish or a dialect and leave the classroom knowing 2 to 3 languages, including English! It's so empowering to see these students grow socially, academically as well as have confidence in themselves. They leave the school year ready for kindergarten! The best part is getting to know their families, since we see most daily as well as monthly for parent workshops. At these workshops parents learn how to teach their child at home with the make and take projects. They make these activities with their child to put in to practice at home. This small community we make with our families is amazing!
Being a preschool teacher, I a teaching these first time students many basics in the classroom. My students are learning how to share, focus, and sit still with a short attention span. Because they are learning the daily routine as well as how to do activities in the classroom, flexible seating will allow them to focus more on the activity itself and actually learn from it. Many of my students are wiggle worms who like to lean back in their chairs, go on their knees or stand. Having flexible seating will help those individuals who can't sit still or get comfortable. Seeing other teachers use the flexible seating and then hear how much it's helped their students, makes me want to do whatever possible to give my students the same experience!
