Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I am at a Title One School with a small population; however, we have a high absenteeism rate. We have numerous students for which English is not their first language, and I suspect education was/is not strongly encouraged in their culture. Other, traditionally English-speaking students, have a history, from previous and current schools of excessive absences and unexcused tardies. My goal is to provide incentives versus negative consequences to encourage the students to attend school daily. The rewards will also be used to entice the parents to effectively communicate with the school the status of their child(ren), as needed daily. Encouragement, not punishment!
