My students need an environment that resembles a library (or nook) to work on our center rotations.
This project expired on December 25, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Many of my students come from low socio-economic families and are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. After last year's hurricane season, things became even more challenging. If I can in any way, I would like to provide them with the means they need to succeed.
Despite all the hardships that students encounter daily, they aim to succeed in school and in life.
My students are the bottom 25% academically but I strive to help them achieve and succeed.
As a reading teacher, my goal is to have my students not only became better readers but to fall in love with the process. Reluctant readers will find every possible excuse to not give reading a chance.
As we work in our rotations, I don't want to simply send a few students to their reading center.
I want to invite them to experience a library within the classroom with a nook vibe. I want to offer them as much as possible of the calm environment I believe struggling readers need. Therefore, the couch (for relaxing reading time), rug ( it allows students to sit on the floor as well as to remove shoes if desired), and ambient divider to give a sense of privacy and quiet, will do just that. They will even be able to write notes on the divider.
