My students enjoy reading. However many of them are currently reading below grade level: some as low as 1st grade. Oftentimes students become frustrated with the difficulty of the books they are being exposed to. I “inherited” the books I currently have in my classroom. It was left by the previous teacher; they are very old, in deteriorating condition. They are in such delicate state, that many fall apart even with the gentlest touch. A recurring writer reads better. A recurring reader writes better. I encourage my students to do both on a daily basis in and out of class. Thus organization can be an important piece for their progress on both writing and reading. The crates will be used to organize the books and storage classroom supplies; and the binders/folders their class/writing work. With properly filed, easy to maneuver work, students will be able to refer back to their work as needed. Books on a variety of reading levels are needed. For both in class and independent reading.
