it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Help me improve outcomes for my students (K-5th grade) who struggle with attendance by supporting a system that both incentivizes personal responsibility and guarantees adult connection. The gift you give towards charts and prizes will help organize and systematize an intervention for about 15% of our school population across campus whose poor attendance is getting in the way of learning. This intervention has been successful on a small scale, but I'd like to increase the number of students served.
Your support will help the students at my school in greatest need as they lean into their understanding of what it means to be independent scholars who take responsibility for setting and monitoring personal goals.
How the project will work:
1. Charts received through Donors Choose will be placed strategically around campus in three different buildings, managed by adults.
2. Identified students will be given personalized ticket booklets to track their own attendance daily. Booklets will be stored in one of the charts.
3. Together with an assigned adult, students will make a series of personal goals and identify desired awards (prizes ordered through Donors Choose will be featured).
4. Students will then check their ticket booklets daily to track their own attendance as it relates to their personalized goal.
5. As students meet their goals, they will then collect the agreed upon reward.
Interventions will run for 8 weeks, as needed, to help students develop positive habits for school attendance, while improving their sense of belonging - giving them another adult at the school who cares about their wellbeing.
