This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My very amazing students attend a special day school for students with multiple disabilities. Since the pandemic, most people have experienced a higher level of anxiety and social isolation. Though we have returned to our "new normal", our students are still suffering from anxiety and stress. This is compounded by the mental health issues that our students struggle with on a daily basis. I am so blessed to work at a school where students have regular access to counselors.

We focus on teaching self-regulation and self-soothing skills to our students, which will help them succeed in life and in the classroom.

We are requesting Dazzle putty for them to squeeze when they feel anxious. Anxiety stress strips to place on items that they carry with them that they can rub to relax. Stress sensory lotion to smell when they need to decompress, as well as mental health journals and stickers to express their feelings.
