My Students
Located in our nation's capital, my Title I school serves the needs of a diverse community of students and families, particularly English language learners. In my current classroom, at least 6 different languages are spoken among all of my students, each of them equally beautiful and complex.
At the beginning of my year, it is difficult for my students to speak with one another because of the obvious language barriers but as a family, we develop a sense of vulnerability and safety, and together we learn to make mistakes and trust one another.
Through this process, I see my students begin to develop friendships, despite their inability to fully communicate through words. This is one of the most humbling, profound experiences to witness, and it cannot fairly be described by the limitations of my own language.
I am proud to serve my students and will continue to work with my families to improve the well being of all people in fair, respectful ways.
My Project
My students are so excited to learn when they come into my classroom, but because of some challenging circumstances that my kids face, sometimes they do not yet have the skills to be successful when they enter my classroom. My job as their teacher is to provide them with the resources necessary to help them access their potential in order to show tremendous amounts of growth while they are in my classroom.
I am requesting practice books that will help to build Language Arts and Math skills that are essential for 1st grade.
Each student will be able to receive their own book which will not only be used in class, but it can also be used at home! The practice books cover reading foundational skills, language conventions, writing, math, and plenty of other skills! My students will love these books and they will help to supplement all of our lessons. Please consider supporting my students.
