Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing. Maybe I am a little partial... We do a lot with what minimal we have and I would love to see their growth potential soar with new and exciting items in our classroom.
We are a Title I school in Pasadena, TX where Hurricane Harvey made landfall during our first week of school this year.
Our school community was majorly affected by this natural disaster, even students and staff having their homes flooded and being rescued and displaced. I received two new students in the aftermath. We are Houston Strong!
My classroom family works hard and I am so proud of them! My students are like sponges! I love them all so much. Their potential is limitless. To help my students be their best academically, I need a few educational products to enhance our literacy skills. Thank you!
My Project
Our report card measures reading stamina. The sand timers will provide a visual for my students as they build their reading stamina in our classroom library. One minute, three minutes, five minutes, and ten minutes at a time, we will build our reading stamina which also affects our reading fluency in a positive manner.
In addition to building our reading stamina with the use of sand timers, we will also increase our phonemic awareness and apply our letter knowledge as we create CVC words with the letter snap blocks.
The letter snap blocks also give a visual representation of beginning, middle, and end sounds of CVC words. It is all connected really. As we improve our ability to decode words, we will build up our fluency. As we build up our fluency, our reading stamina improves. And our reading stamina is measured by our sand timers. Of course, the longer the effective reading stamina time is, the better we have reading fluency.
Reading is a huge building block to other skills. A strong foundation is imperative to my students.
