Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is an eclectic group of 3rd and 4th grade students with various learning styles that I must adapt and adjust each day to ensure their success. I differentiate the classroom environment to allow students to learn in ways that benefit their unique needs. I incorporate hands on learning, technology, group and individual material, as well as working with me to to focus on their individual goals.
I have about 60 students in attendance that work on mainly reading, but this in turn leads to success in their math class as well.
I work with a team and we work together on each student's strengths and weaknesses to determine which instructional plan we need to follow. By using each students plan in my class I can better understand any missteps they may take.
With these additional resources available my students will have more access to these specific skills. This is turn will will help me zero-in on any misconception. My goal is for my students to not need me anymore and to become independent.
My Project
I am asking for a variety of skill building resources for my students. Working on Multiple Meaning Words, Idioms, and Figurative Language is just one set of the areas that consistently give my children a difficult time. Other challenging areas are Theme, Main Idea, Summarizing, Root Words Prefix, Suffix , and Vocabulary. The English Language is very difficult to read and even more so to understand and comprehend on any level. The students are expected to read 100-120 words per minute and correctly identify the "best" answer.
I will use the requested resources for my students to address their strengthens and weaknesses so they can become successful in these specific areas.
By using these resources they can learn in teams against each other keeping score. We play class vs.class and student vs. student. The Leader board in the hall is updated after every class for fluency and team or student winners.
Thank you for considering funding our project. We look forward to using these materials in our classroom.
