Students have multiple ways of processing information. Although we use math & reading books, we also use tools like chess, board work, and physical movements to teach core subjects like math & language arts.
I have 19 students that I will take from 5th grade and now currently 6th graders all the way to 8th grade.
The chess games will follow with us. My students are from all types of cultures, socio-economic backgrounds and learning abilities. They are amazing & wonderful students who have come together as a unified group.
My Project
By supplying these students with these chess sets and supplies (pencils, chalk, etc), the students will be able to see real life applications of math, and language arts, as well as the fact that chess is proven to improve math and reading scores. Chess will help them develop logical, precise thinking. It encourages patience, sharp memory, the ability to concentrate, problem solving skills, & the understanding that certain behaviors carry certain consequences.
As we continue to look for ways to expand our students' critical thinking ability, could it be that some of the secrets to pushing student thinking and improving academic ability reside in a game that dates back to 531 AD?
Thank you for your very generous donation to providing multiple ways for ALL students to be educated.
