My students need a variety of books (biographies, books in a series, books by the same author, and books with descriptive and expressive language) to experience reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In a normal day, I go to 6 different classrooms and meet with about 15-20 kids per room. Many students don't have access to quality books and haven't fallen in love with reading yet. My goal is for them to find books that they love and build a residual love of reading that will carry them through.
I work with Title 1 students who don't have access to many experiences, materials, or resources that other children do.
The majority of our students are English Language Learners and have limited English and vocabulary skills. The students in my school have a sincere love of learning but need the opportunities to foster that love. They need to experience what it feels like to find books, authors, and series that you love and be able to build their experiences through these books. My hope is that students will read and see what they are capable of, want to become better readers, and will truly fall in love with reading and books. That will carry them through the rest of their lives. Once you can read, you can do anything. I think every student deserves to know what that is like! Having access to quality reading materials will afford them that chance.
My Project
The students will be able to read these books in class, at home, and with other people, whether with other students or teachers. They will get multiple opportunities to read and re-read the texts. Students will get to choose what they read, when they read it, and where they read. This will open up the door to reading and book choice and imagination. They will experience what life is like in other worlds. Students will also be able to share these books and their experiences with them with other students, teachers, and friends. They will get to build their language skills through talking about their books, build their visualization skills by imagining other lives, and enhance their knowledge of the world through reading. These books will open doors for students they never knew existed, much less were shut. Reading will change the world for these students.
Books are windows to other worlds.
Amazing texts open these windows for students. My students will be able to experience life from new perspectives by reading these books. By giving students the opportunities to read these books, I am giving them the chance to grow their brains. Their thinking abilities, language abilities, and visualizing abilities will change. I will be able to show students the value, joy, and true love of reading and learning.
