Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love the diverse population of our community. Each student brings to the classroom a rich heritage, with unique abilities and passions. It is so exciting to see the transformation as the year progresses in the classroom, from a group of individuals to a cohesive team working together. They build relationships, creating a community that values their individuality as well as their similarities.
With a focus on positive communication, the students encourage and support each other as they solve problems.
As the year progresses, their skills increase. By the end of the year, they have discovered how each individual is a valued member of their community and that together, they can conquer challenges that would be difficult alone. This unity of spirit is what I especially love about my students.
My Project
Using familiar materials such as; the Simple & Powered Machines Set, the Creative Lego Brick and the Simple Machine Set, will allow students to focus on creating a design that supports their projects's functionality. This project is for the beginning of the year. Initially they will work in groups of two, building on the dynamics of working together as a team- listening and speaking skills, supporting each other's ideas and presentation to the class.
By the end of this first project, students will have a greater understanding of how to communicate with each other, and how to utilize the strengths of each other.
This is an important understanding as they move into larger group experiences as the year progresses.
