My fourth grade students come to school excited about learning. My kids are digital learners, multi-taskers and lovers of technology. Our classroom consists of 31 students, many of which are struggling English-speaking learners as well as students with special needs.
I teach in a high poverty school where reading is the key to success.
My fourth graders love to learn using a variety of tools. They love to use the technology tools we have in our classroom. Many do not have computers at home so they use every opportunity possible to use them in the classroom.
Our school has been fortunate enough to purchase licenses for the Imagine Learning computer-based literacy program. Imagine Learning is an engaging language and literacy software program that accelerates English learning. Focused on oral language, academic vocabulary, instruction in the five essential components of reading, and strategic first-language support. It’s research-based, instructionally differentiated, and incredibly fun to use. It is a great academic tool for my students to use at school.
My Project
Unfortunately, we only have three working computers to utilize this amazing program. With an additional laptop, more of my 31 students will be able to access this program throughout the instructional day. The students will be able to cycle through on 4 computers instead of 3. This will allow me to better implement the literacy program into my instructional day by maximizing the number of students engaging in the program.
Data has shown a significant increase in the reading levels and achievement of my students.
This literacy program has been an effective tool in reaching the diverse learners in my class. Already, this year, I have seen an increase in reading levels of those using the program with fidelity. I want more of my students to have the same opportunity. It has served as an interactive and motivational tool of learning that has allowed my students to reach academic gains.
