School libraries help prepare students for college, career, and life. Our media center provides a multitude of books that reaches hundreds of students; I believe that school libraries should also provide access to high-end tools and resources for our students. This makes learning opportunities more equitable across schools.
As our school's media coordinator, I get to help hundreds of students fuel their passions through books, technology, and hands-on activities.
Our students are readers, makers, engineers, designers, artists, scientists, and inventors. Several years ago, I became a SciGirls leader. This helped me design more STEM activities with our girls in mind. Then three years ago, we had the unique opportunity to start an Imagination Chapter at our school. This program helps students develop their creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Since then, we have created a makerspace in our library which our students absolutely love.
We appreciate your help as we build a library for the future!
My Project
My students want to help make the world a better place by creating videos about taking care of the earth. This goes along with our studies about soil, plants, pollution, weather, renewable energy, and other environmental science topics. This iPad and case will ensure that all students have ample opportunities to create videos with the apps that we use.
We are one of more than 100 Imagination Chapters in the world; two of our big events are the Inventor's Challenge and the Earth Day Challenge.
This is our fourth year of being part of this amazing group. As part of the Inventor's Challenge, our students create an invention and then record a video to submit for judging. Last year a team of fifth graders won a special award for coming up with ideas to help another group in Africa with clean water. South Africa had been experiencing a drought.
This iPad will help our students contribute content on a global level. It is very important to me that they not just consume information from the Internet but that they also create content to share with others. We'll share these videos with fellow Imagination Chapters around the world. We have some iPads in our media center, but we would love to get this additional iPad and case so that students will have more time to create videos, collaborate with others, and code robots.
Thank you for your help in providing this iPad for my students!
