My students need science STEM bin materials, such as a Qubits set, LEGOs, and a K'Nex kit, as well as scratch off stickers, a food scale, hygiene kits, and polo shirts.
My students are deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deaf-blind. They have hearing loss ranging from mild to profound. My campus serves as the high school level Regional Day School Program for the Deaf in our area.
Students are bused in from surrounding school districts to receive specialized services such as deaf education teachers, an audiologist, speech pathologist, VI teacher, and sign language interpreters.
Most of our students come from low-income households and many have limited access to language (spoken English or sign language) at home. It is imperative for our students to learn new skills in hands-on, visual ways!
My Project
I teach Daily Living Skills classes as well as Community Based Vocational Instruction classes. We have units ranging from the food chain to simple machines to basic cooking in DLS. Our STEM bins will be filled with materials, such as a K'Nex set, Legos, and a Qubits set, for my students to be able to show a visual representation of their knowledge.

STEM bins will be a fun and interactive way for them to show concept mastery by constructing the parts of a food chain, for example.
This year I am using choice boards, which look like Tic Tac Toe boards, for each unit of study. My students will be able to choose how they want to show me that they understand the content. (Examples include a written journal entry, building a model, using art, verbal/signed response on our green screen, and etc.) The stickers will be used for them to scratch off an assignment once it has been completed.
In my CBVI classes, my students will be going off campus to train at various job sites, such as restaurants, retirement homes, and retail stores. I am drilling home the importance of personal hygiene in the workplace.
I am requesting personal hygiene kits, including toothpaste/brushes, combs, deodorant, and hair ties, and extra basic polo shirts as backups for days when these needs are not met at home. They must look professional to go off campus and train in the community.
