This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are so funny! I'm always effected by their insights and confessions in their writing and speaking activities. For all the woe that teachers have around distracting technology in the classroom, I find that for every student who has checked out into their phone, there's a pair or a trio somewhere else laughing, smiling,- learning or experiencing something new together.

I often hear students say that school is boring or that they aren't interested in the content- In response to this, I recently convinced my school principal to reboot an English class that was a favorite of mine as a teen- Myths and Monsters, which is paired with Science Fiction.

These classes will enable me to teach necessary English skills with texts which are just downright FUN. But I need some help getting the books!

My school site has many present identities because it is the host of a special program for international students in addition to being in the urban sector of our city, with all the challenges those students face. This ironic diversity makes for a vibrant campus.

My Project

"Engagement" is a term I hear thrown around a lot at my school site. Administrators ask how I will engage my students. Other teachers ask me if my students have been engaged lately. I promise my students at the start of every year that I will make the content as engaging as possible. These books are an engagement strategy.

Teaching Dracula and A Wizard of Earthsea will make my class more fun, memorable, and engaging- purchasing these texts for my classroom will enable me to foster imagination and wonder in public school!
