I teach 7th grade in a neighborhood school with a growing ELL (English Language Learning) population. As we have started rolling out technology to the classroom, the result has been productive and has engaged students.
Technology has allowed more student interaction and created a challenging and stimulating learning environment.
It is my goal that all students feel safe and comfortable to learn and grow as young adults. My students are highly motivated and self-directed. As their teacher, I am proud of their creative thinking and want to provide the tools that they need to develop into life-long learners.
My Project
We love self-paced learning in our classrooms. It supports a wide variety of learners and their many, many needs. Audio and video content is available in their digital classroom space and then students can access that content on demand, both inside and outside the physical walls of the classroom.
My students need headphones so that they can plug-in to the audio-visual learning materials on the computer so they can learn at their own pace and in their own space without the distractions of other students and their learning pace.
We are so lucky to have devices in the classroom and the ability to make and share a wide variety of learning materials. To take full advantage of that, we need our students to be able to listen to and watch those materials when they need to do so. When 32 kids are all trying to listen to something different- boy does it get loud and distracting. Headphones allow kids to hear what they need to hear when they need to hear it, without having to filter out the other sounds of a busy classroom.
