Mrs. Huggins from Durham NC is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 2 web chairs, a bluetooth speaker and a LED strip lights kit to create a calming room perfect for just about any task.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students do not have the adequate supplies that they need. They selflessly share supplies and take turns using supplies. Several times we have had to share supplies across classes. Our district is under a severe budget cut. We are severely under supplied. My school is a Title I school.
90% percent of the kids are on free or reduced lunch.
My class has a high enrollment of Hispanic and African American students. These students make the best of what they have. They are very eager and willing to learn. Teachers are using whatever resources they have to help our students.
Throughout the day my class goes through different transitions in the room. I want students to enter the class in the morning with a calming mood. A mood that gives way to reading. I feel like lighting and music plays an influential part in the effect on my student's behavior. Presently, I turn off one set of lights and play music with my cell phone. I love the idea of being able to control the activities and tone of the room with the lights. Mini Bluetooth speakers will allow the music to actually be heard throughout the classroom. Right now if classroom volume reaches a certain level even a little it becomes too hard to hear the music if you are not in close vicinity of the phone. The chairs are for alternative comfortable seating in the classroom library. I would like to improve my library. We once had inflatable chairs. As you can imagine with 10 and 11 year old kids they are no longer in existence. These new chairs are more durable and hard to destroy. I also want to change the mood of the classroom when they begin working cooperatively. I would like to create a high paced tone in the classroom with warm light colors.
