Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Middle school students have no idea about what is required to get into the college of their choice. They will be able to access university websites to check requirements for admission. Students must understand what is required so they begin to work on study habits that will help them succeed.

My students are gifted and high achieving middle school magnet students.

They have dreams of attending schools like Harvard and UCLA, but don't know what is required. Our magnet program is made up of 507 middle school students, grades 6 - 8, who are 85% minority and 15% white. Our school has 66% of our students on free and reduced lunch.

My Project

I am requesting a laptop so students can come into my office and research universities in their free time. I will give them access to a corner of the office where they can do their research. I wish to use the laptop to encourage students to check for scholarships, grants, and other ways to fund their college education.

Knowing how college changes lives, I want to give students access to university websites so they can get excited about attending college, and start changing study habits to improve their grades.

When our graduates come back to visit, they are very excited and proud of their accomplishments. I want that for our current students.
