I'm Fidgety and I know It!

My students need chair bands because they have super fidgety feet. Using these bands has really helped with focusing attention and keeping students in their seats longer.

My Students

My students receive special education services for various reasons; autism, intellectual delays, severe ADHD, emotional dysregulation/mental illness, etc. It is my goal to keep these students in the general education population of students as long as possible. The alternative is they will move to a categorical setting where they are more isolated from the general population. My kids are in my classroom throughout the day; sometimes to take a break in a smaller, quieter environment, sometimes to work on specific skill deficits. This effort has paid off. I have a student who barely spoke last year, and could have been moved into a categorical autism setting this year, just recently said to a peer, "hey girl, what's up!" My kids are funny, creative, imaginative and AMAZING people!

My Project

Do you remember when you were in school, feeling bored, not wanting to pay attention, and to provide yourself with entertainment or keep yourself awake, you attempted to kick the seat in front of you?

With all of the environmental stimulants our students today encounter, our students are in constant need of sensory input especially when their little bodies are required to sit still for sometimes up to 60 minutes.

Chair bands are a giant rubber band that fits around the front legs of the chair. Students can use these to rest their feet and hold their legs still; they can bounce their legs on them, they can even play a rubber band tune. They have been a lifesaver in keeping my little ones seated to complete a lesson.

The only downside is they take a beating and do not last forever. It is time to replace them in my classroom. Your donation would be a great help.
