Every day I walk into an adventure! My 21 friends are the most caring and energetic second-grade students I have ever met. Each one of them has a personal story. Still, everyday no matter what is going on at home, they greet me with a giant hug and a smile.
I write quotes on our wall in the room every Monday: our favorite is by Walt Disney " If you can Dream it You can do it!"
Our school is a Title I school located in a decent sized community that is busting at the seams. The school that I teach at is one of 5 elementary schools. We have approximately 500 students in our building.
My friends are a transient group, traveling between schools. Due to this and the income hardship of most of these families, we provide free breakfast and free lunch to all!
Every year the teachers shuffle around so we can incorporate new families into our loving community. Most of them are ESOL and some are just shuffling to find a new home. Every one of my students' matter. They all are so SPECIAL in their own way!
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will be a game changer! Every teacher eventually runs into 2 problems in the classroom. Problem 1: some students have completed their work and are looking for something challenging to do. Problem 2: A variety of students are working on different educational levels. I have researched a plan that can help solve both of these problems. I would like to implement Hot Dots into our room. I have ordered several sets of hot dots on educational standards I have taught and pens for the students.
Your help will allow my students to work individually on their level whether it is on their grade level, below grade level, whether they are ESOL, or just fast finishers looking for a challenge.
Hot Dots are technology driven cards that self-check by the touch of a pen. These pens and interactive cards are a fun and different approach to learning. There is no prep work for me so I can spend more time with the students who need more 1:1 assistance. I have ordered different sets that will include math, reading, and science. The students that are finished will then go over to the Hot Dot station and use this week's cards to review skills that I have already taught. They can even get a jump start on new skills. These cards will benefit all of my students. Especially my ESOL students. These cards will help students by hearing the answers in English with the visual aids attached. Reiterating things that have already been taught. All of these cards build upon the life skills that I am teaching them.
These supplies are just what my students need to help achieve academic success in the classroom.
