Help me give my students an OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Wireless Printer, Prepaid Ink card, and Fellowes Spectra Laminator for this once in a lifetime opportunity to become a published author at 8 years old.
The students in my classroom are some of the most caring, sweet, inquisitive, and curious students you could ever meet. Their enthusiasm for learning is simply contagious. They love learning and growing their brain by participating in hands-on activities, solving real-world problems, and enjoy opportunities to teach others what they have learned.
My students have so many good stories and thoughts to share.
Giving them the space to tell their story has been profoundly rewarding because we have truly become a class family. It is so important to me that my students feel safe and heard. My students are dedicated and committed to solving whatever challenge is presented to them because of their growth mindset. They are determined, hard-working students. My school has a growing population of English Language Learners and students on free and reduced lunch however, they still show an irresistible love for learning because every day we are growing!
My Project
Can you imagine students working hard in writing to produce something amazing, but having to wait weeks before they can publish it and share it with others? Having a publishing station with an all in one printer, laminator, and paper in my classroom will transform the way my students write, think, and learn. This hands-on approach will give the students a sense of ownership by having an intended audience. Understanding that their work will be published will motivate them to produce the best work possible by ensuring they follow the steps in the writing process. We are fortunate to have 1:1 Chromebooks enabling them to type often and produce work however, currently, my students have to wait up to two weeks for items to be printed. With this current process, students lose momentum and aren't as motivated to continue writing.
Having a printer and laminator in my classroom will create amazing opportunities for publishing parties where students will become the author in the spotlight.
At the event, students will share their published written work with students, parents, administration, and others. This provides students with exposure to writing for different audiences, which will engage them in producing creative and thought-provoking work. Furthermore, having this station will cultivate a love of writing and help them to understand the importance of literacy. These life long skills will ensure that they are college and career ready.
