This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For most of us, we wake to technology, we go throughout our day unable to separate ourselves from technology, and we go to sleep only after pulling ourselves away from our technology, knowing we will repeat this cycle tomorrow. For my students, however, this is not a reality.

My students are phenomenal, loving, interested and motivated.

They are intelligent seekers, they are driven learners, and they are upstanding citizens. They are also from poverty; 99% of them qualifying for free and reduced price lunch. Their statistics do not take away from them as people, but it does hinder their ability to utilize technological resources that more affluent students benefit from without problem. They are, therefore, put at a disadvantage from their more affluent peers for things like reading, problem solving skills, and outside world experience. For music class, they don't get to break outside the music they hear at home and experience the world that music has to offer them. With increased technology, they can have a much more hands-on musical experience, and can create music in a way they never could before.

My Project

I have requested an iPad and protective cover so that my students can delve into a new world of music. Through the apps on the iPad, my students can be self driven to do things like investigate instruments, create musical compositions, and read about composers. The iPad will not only help my students become independent musicians through projects they will complete on their own, but will also help them increase their musical literacy, by reading music more efficiently and comprehensively. Their faces will light up with satisfaction when they complete a task on the iPad, because it interacts with them in a way I can't provide with the lack of technology in my classroom.

My students will become global musicians, students equipped with the skills and knowledge it takes to be a musician in this day and age.

They will become independent learners, by being able to do many projects on their own, and they will be engaged in what they are learning in music!
