Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you imagine what it would be like to be a fourth grader reading two years below grade level? The magic of technology contained in an iPod is just what is needed to help increase the reading ability of any child.
My students struggle in the area of comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency.
An iPod would provide a portable device that would allow these struggling readers to work at their own pace using various literacy based apps. The iPod would be loaded with apps that pertain to improving the students reading levels. In addition, to using the iPod for practicing reading skills the students can use them to record themselves reading. Students can monitor their own reading fluency with audio recordings. This will build comprehension, content-area vocabulary, fluency, and reading confidence.
My Project
I want to raise the reading achievement of the students that I work with. The iPod touch is a medium of learning that students find motivating. Motivation replaces frustration! It is my responsibility to prepare these learners for college and career success. The iPod will allow me to focus my instruction by giving these students apps that will give them extra practice to reinforce those skills that will make them life long readers!
Demographics should not equal destiny.
Although my students may come from disadvantaged backgrounds and don't always have access to the latest technology, they have a desire to reach for the stars. Having an iPod could make a real difference.
