Imagine your body is unable to regulate itself and understand sensory information from the environment. Then add to that difficulty with communicating. Many of the students utilize picture communication systems for language.
My students work so hard each day to regulate their sensory systems in order to learn.
Our school has 4 classes that support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. During each of their days, they participate in a variety of student specific sensory programs. This helps each student perform at their optimal level for learning.
We have been utilizing an iPad to support fine motor skills as well as writing skills. Currently we have only one iPad and it's unable to update to support new programs. Although we're grateful we have one iPad to use, this does make it difficult to support a large caseload. We would be extremely appreciative of your generosity of donating another iPad.
My Project
My students use the iPad during their therapy sessions to help reinforce their learning. We utilize the iPad for typing using a blue tooth keyboard. The students use apps to learn to type sentences, complete worksheets and practice typing their names. The iPad is used to reinforce letter formation using a stylus to trace letters. They also use switches to interface with choose boards and cause and effect programs. This will aid with communication. We use blue tooth speakers during their sensory programs as well.

This will change our students' lives for the better because they will love school and feel success at an early age --- having fun while learning!
