Help me give my students the volleyball and basketball training and playing equipment that would enable them to their best at the sport that they practice so hard at.
The student-athletes in our school are very special indeed. It is almost as if this project was made for a school like ours. Our pre-12th grade school is located in a rural community and has an enrollment of less than 200. Our school has redefined "success” when it comes to competing in sports. Years ago our small school had a great sports program and was the “school to beat”. We had many successful players walk the hallways of our school. Through the years our community has changed. We were once a neighborhood of small family farms that contributed many great athletes to our school. Success in sports can bring recognition to a school and town in which then brings prosperity and business. Over the years, as in many rural economies, small farms lost out to bigger farms that the smaller ones were unable to compete with. This made many families turn away from our community and school. In turn, many programs suffered including our athletics. Our school and community have not given up! We realize that our sports program is not just about sports. It is about health, family, friendships, life lessons, and community.
My Project
The donations for this project will make a huge difference for our athletic program at IHS. Our town is a small, rural town in South Dakota and its school doesn't always have the extra money to spend on supplies and equipment. The specific materials that we chose will help our athletes in many different ways.
The volleyball knee pads are always needed by our volleyball athletes if they aren't able to purchase them on their own or forget to bring them to a game or practice.
The volleyballs are always needed to be able to practice with good balls. Also, the training equipment will be beneficial for our youth players as well as practice for our more novice athletes.
The basketball defensive dummy that was requested will be a great asset for those athletes who come into the gym and practice on their own as well as setting them up in practices for extra defensive help.
All of this requested equipment will be used immediately and benefit our sports program greatly. IHS athletes have dealt with a lot of adversity and losses. Our fans, coaches and athletes do not give up! We realize that sports is not the only activity that defines our school but it is something that brings healthy competition, fitness, excitement, recognition, revenue, family and friendships to our community. IHS ATHLETES DON'T GIVE UP!
