Help me give my students an all-purpose mobile teaching easel, hands-on STEAM activities, magnetic math manipulatives, comprehension text talk cards, some flex-space wobble, and soft seat cushions.
Nestled in a low socioeconomic community, our school has limited resources. However, my students are S.T.E.A.Ming forward and striving for excellence. Every child has the ability to learn, grow, and succeed. All it takes is a little motivation with the right tools and exposure, for a child to turn imagination into reality.
My classroom consists of 26 amazing students, with active inquisitive minds.
They are as diverse in their thinking as they are in their ability, but each has a story to tell. They are eager to share their stories and become successful contributors to our learning community.
My Project
The easel along with the comprehension text cards will be used for shared writing within the writer's workshop model in whole group, literary circle discussions and the recording of small group STEAM collaborative data. The soft seats and flex-space wobble cushions will give my students a place where they can sit comfortably where they learn best. The magnetic math manipulatives will aide whole group instruction and small group intensive practice. The STEAM center activities will be used by the students in small groups to explore and master 2nd-grade math and science standards and subjects.
Donations to my project will improve critical thinking skills, by providing opportunities for my students to engage in fun and exciting math and science activities.
Critical thinking is the foundation of becoming successful contributors to the community and the world around them. Being able to think critically, powers curiosity, gives subsistence to imagination, and creates life-long learners.
