My Project
I love to see my students do well in math. My reward comes from seeing them all succeed. I don't like to see anyone get left behind. I want the whole world to see how much growth my students will have made by the end of this school year. One way of showing their academic growth is on the timed statewide computer-based test they are given at the beginning of April.
They need an external mouse and mouse pad, so they can practice on their laptops.
No matter whether a student knows the answer to a question or not, they have to be able to enter the information into the computer accurately or it will be counted wrong. Some test formatted questions consist of the following technology-enhanced items: drag-and-drop, line plot input, angle draw input, drop-down list input. These are just a few things students are required to do. In order to do these things successfully, accurately, and promptly they need to use a computer mouse and mouse pad. The built-in mouse on the laptops make completing these functions very difficult for 3rd graders, especially the students who are already struggling with solving math problems and have special needs. I don't want the excuse of not being able to click and drag on an item to frustrate them to the point that they give up. Once they give up trying, their scores will cause the class average to drop. They should be tested on their knowledge of math and not their computer skills. Hopefully, the use of a computer mouse and mouse pad will increase my students' chances of being successful on their math assessment.
