If a Child Can Read, They Can Do Anything

My students need lots of books! They need to be surrounded by and immersed in reading! This book by Texas author, Marian Hale, is a fantastic historical fiction that everyone loves.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I'm starting a new adventure at a STEAM Middle School in Dallas ISD. This school opened three years ago and I'll be teaching RLA for the 8th grade class.

As exciting as it is to be at a new school, unfortunately I don't have many books for my classroom library.

I want to surround these students with interesting literature.

A lot of my students ride the bus a long way to get to this public choice school. I want to send them on the bus with great novels to read! Please help me with that if you can.

My Project

I'm asking for a class set of the chapter book, Dark Water Rising, about the great hurricane of 1900 that washed over Galveston Island. It's a beautiful and frightening book that everyone loves -- I've recommended it to adults, who have loved it and have read it to classes who loved it just as much.

My high-risk students need to read.

They need to read deep and wide. Many are English Language Learners and there's no better way to get them college-ready than to immerse them in literacy.

But, the texts we read need to be relevant and relatable. Marian Hale's tale told from the perspective of a teenage boy going through a life-threatening situation, wrapped in the beautiful prose of Hale, is truly captivating.
