Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
If children are our future, we must equip them with the technological and scientific literacy needed in order to fully engage them in the conversation of how to address the issues of our current global crisis. This will empower their sense of agency .
98% of our student population is classified as living in poverty.
Our students come from severely low socioeconomic situations and further burdened by the limitations of language barriers, as the majority are English language learners. Despite their sometimes bleak circumstances, they have demonstrated tremendous perseverance and dedication by making gigantic improvements academically and in after school programs, Academic Pentahalon, math bowl, and various other extra curricular activities.
My Project
I want to expose my students to technology that will develop their digital literacy as well as heighten their awareness of green issues which will transform their surrounding environment. I want to empower them by exposing them to state of the art technology such as the Google Nexus, so they become familiar with apps, ebooks, and presentations programs such as 'keynote.'
In addition, it's important that they have access to modern books that address our current environmental issues. The tablets I requested will help fulfill that need for high interest science literature that will encourage student participation to better our world. We will use the tablets and new books to compile a keynote presentation, guide and practice the new Common core curriculum, and explore the world around us to fulfill their curiosity and dreams of wonder.
I truly believe in the power of education to challenge, shape, and exercise the minds of our children.
I want our children to be able to compete in the future job market. In order to this, it's critical that they be armed with the skills needed to thrive in our technologically driven world. I want to provide them with practical relevant applications of science and technology, so that our youth can create, inspire, and exercise their problem-solving skills, and become our future leaders.
