I teach at-risk students. They are over age and under credit. Most are from low social-economic backgrounds; some are trying to be the first in their family to graduate high school. These students use the low student-to-teacher ratio to become more successful.
My Project
I’m trying to rebuild my classroom and get the supplies necessary to help my students be successful in high school. I teach at-risk kids in an alternative program. These kids need all the support they can get. We push our kids to be successful. Sometimes it means feeding them and providing them with extra supplies that they need.
I am requesting headphones, a globe, files, a pencil sharpener, and a classroom clock.
We use Chromebooks so we need headphones to use everyday in the lab. Chromebooks were with our kids but headphones were lost in damage. I teach Social Studies and can really use a new globe since it was damaged and so thrown out.
The files, pencil sharpener and clock will help us stay organized, focused and working on task.
I am their teacher, advocate, helping hand, and sometimes just a person to talk to. They come from many backgrounds but mostly low incomes and single parents. My classroom and supplies were destroyed by Hurricane Ida. We are just moving back in now five months later.
