Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
VV is an elementary school with over four hundred students. All students are free lunch. Many of the students come from diverse backgrounds and school is the only constant in their day. But that doesn't stop the students from being the best they can be. The students work hard all day reading and practicing math.
The students at our school find a lot of joy in books and coming to the library.
They come to care and depend on the characters of the books. Some of the characters they continue to read for many years. Students love to learn new things and books are a great way to introduce history and science to them.
My Project
Many books and television shows share the same characters, the students soon discover that the books have so much more detail than the television show. Having books where the students already know the characters, allows them to feel somewhat comfortable picking up a foreign book. Sometimes a book can be overwhelming by the size or even the words but because the students have seen these characters before they are more willing to take a chance.
There is a relationship between the reader and the character that draws the students to the book.
My goal is to show them that there is so much more to learn about the story by reading the book.
