This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are already self-motivated, high-achievers, but they need a book to help them understand some concepts and to help them adjust to IB language, and I need a book because I just can't make up that many problems.

My students have been struggling without a text book that is tailored to their needs.

I have several students who are hoping to obtain the scores necessary for the IB Diploma on their exams at the end of a two-year sequence in physics, but how well can they honestly expect to do when their school can't afford to supply them with a text or review book that suits their needs? My students work their tails off for two years to be rewarded with dismal scores on exams because the school can't afford the books they need to prepare. While I am about as much a fan of exams as my students, they chose to be a part of the IB program knowing full well what it would require of them, and I'm here to teach them physics and support them in reaching their goals...which is made infinitely more difficult without a book. Our school is part of a low-income district, but my students' low incomes drive them to better themselves for their families.

My Project

My students will use these review guides to study for their exams in May. By providing our classroom with these books, you're enabling our students to reach their highest potential on these exams, opening doors to college, scholarships, and the IB Diploma. I'll also be using these review books for end-of-topic and end-of-semester reviews that will help students to prepare for more formative assessments, and for in-class and homework questions. The IB Physics curriculum has changed in many ways, and these review books will help them to prepare for their final examinations. For some students, review books are the best way for them to prepare, and I want to be able to support my students in any way they need.

For some, passing these exams means going to the college of their choice on a full-ride scholarship, and believe me, if they make it through the IB Diploma Program they deserve a full-ride.
