They enjoy high school art deeply as an elective they choose! \r\n\r\n They loved the opportunity to create faux stone slabs inspired by cave art from around the world - Lascaux France, central Africa & Australia to right here at the red rocks of Arizona. We questioned what compelled early humankind to create art? Great food for thought! The skills gained can lead to careers in creating modern-day faux artforms used in the entertainment industries, medical applications, home décor and more. The scupltamold gave them the freedom to express themselves with great texture and replicating stone as closely as possible. \r\n\r\n The students learned how to measure the sculptamold and water then squish it \"eugh\" to a working consistancy...\"this stuff is fire!\" Also, \"mine REALLY looks real!\" ...\"my antiquing technique looks 30,000 years old.\" \"I CAN draw like a Neanderthal...\" quipped another. \r\n\r\n Using only red, green, blue, orange, yellow and Violet they mixed their own neutral colors for rich browns, tans and taupe. They also engineered their own easels from quality mat board – and they looked great! What confidence builders the cave art has been. Their creative works were very well received on display in our Library/Media Center – a busy location at a high school!\r\n\r\n Without this program and donors like you, I would not be able to foster their new appreciation for quality art projects. My underserved students thank you from the bottom of their hearts. We have created a new school tradition: The Annual Cave Art Expedition!
