Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a full class of 23 students. My students learn in multitudes of ways. I have students who are extremely high and need to be challenged, and I have students who are struggling.
Our students come from low-income households and each have the opportunity to receive free lunch.
Many of my students live lives of two homes due to seperated families, but when we are in the classroom we are one big, supportive family!
At this point in our school year, my lower students have begun finding excitement through learning. They are excited and even ask to read to me, and they are enthusiastic when it comes to participating in Math Talks!
My Project
These books will help my students feel represented in their own classroom. I recently read an article that claimed students of African American, Asian Pacific Islander, Latinx, and American Indian descent are represented less than Animals in books. I have a wide range of cultures in my classroom and feel that each student is not currently represented in the literature we have.
I would love to provide quality literature that represents all students.
I want students to understand they belong in our classroom, and to do so I need more quality literature that represents them, their cultures, and where they come from.
