This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students have been reading books for years that don't necessarily hold their interest. A lot of that has to do with the readability of the books that they may find interesting. The books may be interesting, but the reading level is too high. OR the book level is correct for them, but the story is not interesting to the older struggling reader. Until we discovered the I Survived book series.

The first time one of the students I work with picked up an I Survived book, they couldn't put it down.

For the first time, the reading level and the interest level are so close that my students can read without assistance. They have LOVED the books. They have read the first 10 books, but they haven't been able to read the next 10. They desire to read all of the I Survived books is very strong in them right now. Their reading level and willingness to read have both been positively affected by these books.
