My students need materials such as magnetic boards, sight word cards, and stamps to help them recognize and spell sight words.

My Students

Learning to read is easier when children recognize high frequency words with ease and automatically.

I teach first grade in an Oklahoma school that values the multiple intelligences, but we have limited resources.

I have a variety of learners in my classroom who deserve a pleasurable experience with reading that incorporates their individual abilities as they change and grow.

My Project

The children in my classroom need stamp and write sight word sets, tub of sight words and practice cards, sight word rings, and magnetic sight word board to increase their sight word knowledge bank. As children work with these words with hands-on materials that engage their interest, children will build their sight word knowledge and recognize words easily and automatically.

Sight words make up a large majority of words in children's text.

When children know and recognize sight words, it allows them to comprehend the words they are reading. Sight word knowledge allows children to strengthen their ability to develop successfully as readers as they develop confidence because of sight word recognition.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
