My Students

I am a Speech Language Pathologist working at an elementary school with roughly 50+ children ages birth through third grade. I have a variety of children with many different types of needs. Many of these children are on the Autism Spectrum, are Deak and Hard of Hearing, or have Down Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Apraxia of Speech, or are delayed in some areas of development. My students are excited to work hard, and they love to learn.

I typically help with fluency, articulation, language, and social skills.

I currently work with children who have sensory needs which require a variety of tools and equipment to help with vestibular, proprioceptive, auditory, tactile and visual systems.

My Project

My students thrive on hands-on, active, and engaging activities that allow them to explore and learn. Children need to experience communication in natural contexts. They learn language through watching and hearing others around them. Nonverbal children need to have a mode to express their voices. Using recorded messages on buttons and tiles is a great stepping stone to them finding their inner voice.

By donating to this project, you will be supporting my students' communication development and helping them have successful interactions with their teachers and friends.

Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) includes different methods, devices and strategies that individuals with speech and language impairments use to effectively communicate their wants, needs, and ideas. Buttons and tiles that can have recorded messages and buzzers can be used to help students find the power of communicating.

This project asks for differently sized buttons because many of my students have varied motor skills. The single buttons can be used first, and then the students can progress to using the dual message button. The batteries are in great need so that the buttons and switches are always ready to be used.

This project will provide my language learners and nonverbal individuals with a way to develop independent and spontaneous communication through naturalistic exchanges.
