I-Pads for Science Class

My students need an ipad mini and a case to protect it if it happens to fall off the desk.

My Students

Technology is science. My students need access to an ipad all day. We are constantly working on projects and this requires current up to date information. We have an ipad cart that we can check out for the whole school but the students need access daily.

My students are great.

They come from the small town in SC. The school is made up 450 7th and 8th graders. I teach 7th grade science. We received the National Schools to Watch award. Many of our students are a bit sheltered but using the ipads would allow me to take the students to places that have never been at least virtually.

My Project

My school recently got an ipad cart that we can check out but the problem is that there is one cart of 30 for the whole school. I have checked it out as often as I can but often times we don't finish and it is not available for another week or so. There are some really great apps that we can use on the human body. I can attach it to my document camera to show the whole class when the cart is not available. I could even use the ipad to allow the students that finish their work early, which are usually my advanced students, to expand their knowledge.

The ipad will allow me to open up a whole new world to my sheltered, small town students.

We will be able to take virtual field trips and explore biomes in a real life environment instead of seeing a picture in a book. This project will enhance my instruction to provide the most current science information to the students.
