Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Funding my classroom library has been challenging but seeing my students enjoy reading is priceless. I am a Special Education teacher, and teaching students to read is one thing, but teaching them to love reading is magic. The highlight of my day is when my students say, "Did you get any new books?", "Can you get this book?", "Can we get 10 more minutes to read?". It is surreal how my students are requesting books, discussing books, and learning that there is a book for everyone. I am able to teach them reading for fun, reading to discuss, and reading for information.
Lately, my students have been enjoying graphic novels the most.
I believe graphic novels make stories more accessible for my students by providing visuals and simplified print. Special Education students deserve to know the feeling of loving a character, a story, or a book. Luckily, there are many stories like Percy Jackson that are simplified in graphic novel form.
Please help my students gain access to awesome stories through books. I want to believe that I make readers, independent thinker, and book lovers. Thank you so much for your support!
