This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a low-income special education preschool with children who have Autism, language and communication needs, and/or orthopedic impairments.

Communication is the essence of human life.

For someone who has never struggled with communicating their wants and needs, it is hard to imagine how difficult life would be without it. Many of my children have trouble with this, as well as other functional, social, and educational skills. I have the awesome job of working with these kids and working with amazing teachers to support their students' language-learning in the classroom. I am a new teacher with limited resources and I am always trying to find new ways for my children to be interested in learning about how to better use their speech and language. My goal is to give my students with Autism and orthopedic impairments access to their voice just like every child their age. The technology, toys, games, and devices available today are changing/updating everyday and I would like to do my part to help my kids have the opportunity to experience them.

My Project

Yellies are little toy spiders that move when you make sounds!!! They will become sound-activated when you get near it and either yell, talk, sing, clap, or play music. The louder you yell, the faster they go!

It is very difficult to find toys that encourage our kiddos to use their voice!

I LOVE these toys. These toys will be especially useful for not only my kiddos who are nonverbal, but it will be helpful to use with my kids who have hearing impairments. I am often working on getting them to speak louder and this will give them a visual representation of using a "bigger" voice. YAY!
