I Like You, I Like Me

My students need diverse books that reflect their culture and personality.

My Students

My students attend a Title I school in Georgia and are really motivated to learn. They are energetic, inquisitive, and have so much potential. My students are the future.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela

My little friends learn so much in many different ways. I want my students to have the freedom to learn in the most comfortable way for them. Hands-on centers, visual centers, interactive centers, and all the in-betweens in a welcoming, yet structured, environment are just a few things that my students will need and that I will strive every day to provide for working brains and hands.

My Project

When my project is funded, I will use the books as read alouds to share stories that have characters that look like my students. I'll use these books as tools to bridge gaps and build friendships.

Reading a book with a character that looks like you can develop a sense of pride and a deep love of reading.

These books will be available for all the first graders in my school to read, to take home, and to share. There's no better way to develop a love of reading than finding a character that you can relate to. These books will help more of my students connect with characters who look like them, speak like them, and love like them.
