Flexible seating has been proven to have many different advantages to help in student learning. The top four benefits are choice, movement, comfort, and collaboration.
Students learn best when they are given choices.
This will allow students to choose where they sit to learn. It also helps with children that need to move on a regular basis. This will help lessen distractions and disruptions within the classroom. The comfort level within the classroom is better, which allows the kids to pay more attention to the task at hand. Lastly, the collaboration that the students get to have by sitting close together and having a chance to work together will help the classroom atmosphere.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to have choices with how they will engage in their lessons. It will let them take charge and see what works best for them. Currently, my students have to sit at tables and chairs with the rest of their peers while learning. This works for most, but some students need to be able to move and be more comfortable. Making sure students are comfortable is essential in ensuring each child will get the most out of their learning experience. I feel flexible seating will eliminate negative behavior and those types of behaviors in general will be less of a factor and/or distraction.
