Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how intense middle school was? My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. They are facing the challenge of huge numbers of new faces, teachers, and students, while navigating multiple new hallways and classrooms. Sometimes they just need a quick break!
My 6th grade students are from a very diverse portion of the Northern California Bay Area.
This is their first year at a middle school. This middle school is focused on Science, Technology Engineering, and Math. The typical class size is around 30 students. They come from a wide variety of socioeconomic statuses. Students get to school by city bus, school bus, family car, walking, or biking. In my classes, five home languages other than English are spoken.
My Project
It adds so much more stress to a situation to send a student to the administration. A much more positive option is keeping a frustrated, or upset student in the learning environment and teaching him or her to work through their emotions/problem and get back to work. Other students who are focused and always on task need to learn that it is good to reward yourself with a break for successful work. My students will be using the materials we are asking for to build on their social emotional skills.

Donations to this class will benefit middle school students' social emotional growth.
They will have more positive learning time in the classroom. My students will learn how to be successful in middle school and beyond.
